I hope the beginning of school is going as well as possible for everyone.  Looking ahead you probably won’t hear much from me as often.  As things begin to ramp up around the first of the year that will probably change but in the meantime please see the updates below.  If you have any questions on this please let me know.

Card Delivery

Good news, the Pondo Cards are here!!  We will be assembling your cards into a packet along with some additional info and will make them available in Coach Cohen’s office this week.  He will have them starting on Tuesday so everyone should be in the building at some point to get them between Tuesday and Thursday.  Please make sure your son picks them up next week.

In the packet will be the following:

  1. 20 cards (or more for the few that were able to sell more than 20)
  2. The list of addresses of the folks that purchased from you
  3. An invoice showing what is still owed (if anything) for activities from this past spring and summer as well as any unsold cards along with the QB club fees that will be due once the season starts
  4. An instruction sheet with due dates as well as a links for accepting a CC payment for a card is necessary
  5. An envelope to turn collected cash and checks for cards that still need to be sold

That’s right if you still have not sold all 20 of your cards we will be giving you the remaining cards to finish that effort.  The $600 that these cards generate is vital for the program and we need to ensure that everyone does their part in this effort.  Any remaining funds for unsold cards will be due on 9/25.  Those funds can be turned in via the provided envelope or can be paid via a sales page on Cheddar up through a Credit Card or eCheck.

Future Fund Raising

As you all experienced, card fundraising this year was quite a challenge.  Card sales make up nearly 50% of our fundraising in normal years.  Given the challenges, we wanted to take this opportunity to review our fundraising opportunities and seek your input on how we move forward for the 2021-2022 year.  In the past, our fundraising efforts have been limited to:

  • Discount Cards (aka Pondo Cards)
  • Mattress Fundraiser
  • QB Club Dues
  • Safeway/King Soopers/AmazonSmile
  • Corporate Sponsors

Members of the Booster Club have looked into some other options however, none of them net the same income as the current discount card vendor.  While we just completed our card sales for this year, now is the time to begin thinking about next year so that we can be ready when we need to be.  Below are some of the options that have been brought forward as alternatives to the current fundraising methods.  Please provide your feedback, and any other suggestions that we can look into before making our decision for next year.

  • Pondo Cards (with the same vendor)
  • Entertainment Book/App (similar to current discount card but National/Canada)
    • This fundraiser does not net the same income so more “units” would have to be sold per household
  • Casino Night
  • Golf Tournament
  • Fishing Tournament
  • Fill the Helmet
  • 50/50 Raffle (at each home game)
    • IMPORTANT:  Requires a license from the state (it’s considered gambling)
  • Kiss the (fill in the blank) raffle
    • IMPORTANT:  Requires a license from the state (it’s considered gambling)
    • If we meet a certain goal, specified people (coaches, players, etc.) have to “kiss the xxxx” (e.g. kiss the pig)
  • Mattress Fundraiser
  • Silent Auction
  • Corporate Sponsors
  • Safeway/King Soopers/AmazonSmile
  • None – Simply increase QB Club Dues to cover it all

7 on 7 League

We will be joining a 7 on 7 league along with a bunch of other schools in the area.  The cost for this is $165/player but please know that if you are unable to pay there are ways the QB Club can help support you.  Coach Cohen has been communicating with the players though their Hudl account and wants everyone to participate that is interested.  Please note, if your son is not getting any messages through his Hudl account he needs to turn his notifications on.  There have been a lot of things sent to the players that don’t come through me.  Once the registration for this league is up and running I will let you know.

Advise Students to Create an EC Account

As we head into a new school year, please encourage any student-athletes wanting to play sports in college to create an EC account at eligibilitycenter.org . Incoming freshman and undecided student-athletes may want to register for a free Profile Page account. These accounts can be transferred to paid a Certification account at any time. Profile Page account registrants also get an NCAA ID and important reminders from the EC as they complete high school.
Any student-athletes planning to compete at an NCAA Division I or II school need to create a Certification account.

Update Your Core-Course List

The beginning of the school year is a great time to review your school’s core-course list. A list that has not been updated recently could delay your graduating seniors’ academic certification or prevent them from meeting the requirements.

You may add courses, archive those no longer taught and change titles quickly and easily on the High School Portal. If you believe your list is accurate, please log in to the High School Portal to verify you have no updates. This will refresh your account and let the Eligibility Center know your core-course list is correct.

Upload Student Transcripts

If you haven’t done so, please upload a sixth semester transcripts for your incoming senior student-athletes. The easiest way to send transcripts to the Eligibility Center is by uploading them directly in the High School Portal . Direct uploads are quick, free and provide almost immediate access to your student-athlete’s transcripts. Click here to learn more about uploading transcripts. The Eligibility Center also accepts official electronic transcripts from a list of approved providers.
Tip
Domestic high schools with High School Portal access may upload (preferred), mail or email academic records received from another cleared domestic or international high school or ministry office for a student-athlete with a Certification account.

COVID-19 Concern Hotline

COVID-19 Hotline
Last week, the NCAA Board of Governors directed schools and conferences to meet specific requirements if they are to conduct NCAA fall sports during the preseason, regular season and postseason. As a part of this direction, the NCAA has established a phone number and email to allow college athletes, parents or others to report potential return-to-sport concerns. For more information, click here. If you have a concern, please call 833-661-CV19 (2819) or email covidconcerns@ncaa.org.

Labor Day Office Closure

The Eligibility Center will be closed Monday, September 7 in honor of Labor Day. Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, September 8. Have a safe Labor Day weekend!

Sport Science Institute: Heat and Hydration

SSI
Adequate hydration before, during and after physical activity is critical to the safe and healthy participation of student-athletes in college sports. Intense exercise, hot and humid weather and dehydration can compromise an athlete’s performance and increase the risk of exertional heat injury. Click here for materials and resources for heat and hydration-related issues.
